The Megan Tremethick Appreciation Society

The Megan Tremethick Appreciation Society is the official name of our Fan Club, formed by admirers of independent horror and classic cinema who have discovered Megan Tremethick through her collaborations with Hex Studios and the British Horror Studio.

Many of us, perhaps most of us, are not only fans of classic cinema but also admirers of the great screen sirens of old: Hedy Lamarr, Gene Tierney, Lauren Bacall and, of course, perhaps the most beautiful woman of the century, Vivien Leigh, the unforgettable star of Gone with the Wind (1939) and Waterloo Bridge (1940).

In today’s pop culture we know what passes for elegance and beauty, yet it is often not romantic, not pastoral, not the stuff of dreams but of gritty realism and meta self-awareness. It seemed that the days of enjoying a film with heroines like those of old were long gone. That was what we thought until the very films featuring Megan Tremethick began to see the light of day.

Starting with her performance as a tragedienne in Ghost Crew as young Sandy, followed by exotic roles such as the faerie sorceress Nemain in The Slave and the Sorcerer, she burst forth into ever more dramatic territory. She brought cold majesty and Shakespearean command to The Reign of Queen Ginnarra and later became the leading lady of the resurrected 1950s British Horror Studio, Amicus Productions.

It is in these later roles that she excelled, in films whose retro or classically inspired qualities were not marks of irony or pastiche but strangely earnest. They connected with the hearts of admirers both old and new, who found in her a gateway into a world long forgotten, a world that the British Horror Studio in which she participates seems to embody.

Her performances contain vitality, emotional intensity and fragility, qualities so often associated with the genius of Vivien Leigh. It is no small matter that the two also share distinct visual similarities in both appearance and expression.

It was with some surprise, then, that we discovered Megan’s own admiration and love for Vivien Leigh, whom she considers a soul-mate and inspiration, a role model not many actresses today would cite. With similar natures and intensities, both in front of and behind the camera, this remarkable young woman may not be propelled by the corporate studios of today, but she shall become the star of a new era of independent film, embodied by her beauty and courage. She is already set to perform in no fewer than six feature films in 2026 as well as directing her first feature, Spoiling You.

With her sparkling blue eyes, dark auburn curls and porcelain skin, and with a light, tilting voice reminiscent of the transatlantic received pronunciation absent from so many performers today, we, the Megan Tremethick Appreciation Society, welcome her with open arms.

As her fan page, we hope to provide encouragement for her and guidance for her fans, both old and new, so that they might follow her work on Instagram and the free-to-join British Horror Studio Patreon page.
